The Philippine Coast Guard Head
in Zamboanga said that the “shipper was known as Dennis Atillo and the
consignee was Richard Jose and those names were possibly fictitious.”
The said cargo was declared as assorted items with a total
weight of five ton of dried shark fins were seized with an estimated worth of
400k, in the violation of catching, purchase, sale, exportation and importation
of sharks.
The fins where sealed in the
sacks sealed with BFAR (Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources) stating the
type of species of shark fins.
When the ship arrived, the PCG
safety enforcement inspection made a routine inspection and saw big sacks. The team
became curious of its content so they peeked on the sacks and unexpectedly saw
dried shark fins.
“Shark fin Soup is a Chinese
delicacy sold in china at a very high price.”
This was not the first time. Previously
they have sized more than ten pieces of fins mixed on other dried fish.
