Looking Back – 1st 16-bit Microchip was developed by Filipino

The first graphical interface accelerator single chip that enables computer to work lot faster was developed by a Filipino Engineer in the name of “Diosdado Banato”.

This invention allows user to use graphics on commands not the common typed commands installed on older computers. With the chip it, it will allows the processing of data in little faster with a little space (small chips installed instead of larger boards).

Banato was an engineer at high-tech industry and a Filipino entrepreneur, born in the barrio of Malabbac in Iguig, Cagayan.  A 3 time veteran start-up, co-founded Mostron Chips and S3 Graphics.

After fishing master’s degree, he worked in different technology companies where he started designing its first 16-bit single chip processor calculator based. In the late 1981 he invented first 10-Mbit Ethernet applied by CMOS and Trans receiver chip while he was working at SEEQ Technology.

The first IBM logic chip PC-XT and PC-AT was credited to him with the first windows graphic chip accelerator installed on personal computers.
