Zamboanga delisted Almost 60,000 Voters

The Philippine Commission on Elections (Comelec) has delisted almost 60,000 or 59,864 voters to be exact in Zamboanga City Philippines as part of its eradication of the voters' list.

Election Officer Stephen Cañete from the First district said that 21,265 names were already removed while officer Lerdo Matildo Jr. of the second district officer said that 38,599 were also removed from his area.


Stephen Cañete of the first district has a total of 37 barangays and Matildo Jr. of the second district has 61 barangays.

Removed from the voters' lists were names of voters who did not vote in two successive elections, had died, or who had moved their registration to other areas.

The voters' list in was purged after the recent barangay special election last November 25.

The recent Barangay elections in Zamboanga were originally scheduled October 30, but were postponed to November 25 after the followers of MNLF (Moro National Liberation Front) with their founding chairman Nur Misuari tried to occupy the said city and eventually repulsed after a month.
