Four Rebels killed in a clash with military troops in Apayao

The Government security forces killed four suspected communist rebels in Apayao province during a firefight.

Rafael Tangonan the Senior Inspector, and the team leader of joint elements of Apayao Province of the Provincial Public Safety Company and the Provincial Infantry Battalion, said that the residents of the Barangay Calayucay, Luna, Apayao sought their help on the extortion done by the 10 heavily armed men.


The said encounter happened 6 a.m. when the government forces arrived in the reported area. The gunmen were reportedly as the New People's Army remnants of the group called Armadong Makikibakang Masa under Efren Arquillo.


 After the clash, the authorities recovered from scene several high powered firearms, including M16 assault rifle, UZI machine pistol, and a .38 revolver, 2 shotguns, 2 hand grenades, and some assorted ammunition.
