The Security forces of the
Philippines has been given go—signal to launch its law enforcement operations
against Abu Sayyaf terrorists in behind the said kidnapping of the two Germans last April.
The Armed Forces vice Chief lieutenant
General John Bonafos said that the objective of the said operations is to
ensure safety of German hostages and to arrest the said kidnappers.
He also said that members of local
police would take the lead in operations while military is to provide them
support.
“For now, the plan for the law
enforcement operations is being crafted although we do not call it combat
operations since a hostage-taking activity is involved, particularly
kidnapping,” Bonafos told the reporters.
“We cannot provide specific details
of the activity but all we can say is that, this is focused on the perpetrators
of the kidnapping,” he added.
The security officials could not
provide an exact timetable for the said operation but Sulu Island Commander
Col. Arrojado said that it could be launched “anytime.”
