Saab USD5.44 billion 36 Gripen Jets deal with Brazil

The Defense and the security company recently Saab signed contract with Brazilian Federal Government covering development and the production of the 36 fighter aircraft for Brazilian Air Force, total order approximately to SEK39.3 billion.

Both COMAER and Saab signed Industrial Co—operation contract that will deliver the substantial technology transfer from Saab to the Brazilian industry.


Last December of 2013 Brazil selected Gripen to be its next—generation aircraft, through F-X2 evaluation program. All parties negotiated to finalize the said contract. Today is the announcement of the successful conclusion of the said process. Both parties signed contract for the said development and the production of the 36 Gripen fighter aircraft including the related equipment and systems.

The said program comprises a 28 single—seat and a eight two—seat Gripen. The overall order value was SEK39.3 billion.


The said contract with Brazil also strengthens its ties between the Saab and the Brazilian industry. The Embraer will have leading role as strategic partner in F-X2 program. As part of technology transfer plan, the Brazilian industry have an significant role in the said development and be responsible on the production of two—seat Gripen.
