Government of Iraqi and the Shi'ite
militias seized control of strategic town Jurf al-Sakhar near the Baghdad from the
Islamic State and the Kurdish fighters made gains in north after a heavy
coalition and air strikes against the militants.
The Iraqi troops with their allies
broke the said grip of the Islamic State in the Jurf al-Sakhar after fighting
against insurgents to determine its march to the capital.
Security officials said that the
Sunni insurgents have fled to nearby villages and were still attacking with their
sniper fire and mobile mortars. The government forces as of now were preparing a
major overnight operation towards them.
In the recent fighting, a total
of 67 members of Iraqi forces and the Shi'ite militias and with 300 IS Islamic
State fighters killed.
