Jobless? Abu Sayyaf Group offers P15,000 Starting salary for new members

The Philippine known Islamic separatist group ASG (Abu Sayyaf Group) has been spreading its terror in its territorial places in Mindanao since early 90′s, but their activities have not been limited to southern part of Philippines. In Manila, it had terrorist attacks related from the ASG, which have links Jemaah Islamiya, and the ISIS.

Philippine Army waged decades—long campaign to crush ASG. The United States has been involved in supporting Philippines fight for counterterrorism efforts for years.


Locally, local government units of different cities in Mindanao are the forefront in its campaign to eliminate terrorist group. Cities often the site of hostage taking, grenade attacks and other known terrorist activities. It’s been long and drawn out process with the Abu Sayyaf, despite of its dwindling numbers that will not surrender.


The constant pressure that Philippine Army applies, ASG managed to continue its recruit to new members. Former mayor of the Ungkaya Pukan town Basilan revealed that the terrorist group lures members by offering a salary of as much as P15,000 for a month, and fraction of ransom money that they will receive from hostages they take.
