The defense department declared British
firm remarking as only company that qualified to bid for supply of the two Navy
anti—submarine helicopters with a P5.4 billion worth.
During the recent opening of the bids
held in Aguinaldo, Bids and Awards Committee declared Agusta Westland the only
helicopter manufacturer that have met all the needed documentary requirements.
The other two companies that have
submitted its bids for the said project, which seeks to improve military’s
maritime security capabilities. Other bidder, an Indonesian firm from PT
Dirgantara, was then disqualified for failing to present statement of largest
completed contract, one of requirements set by law.
Agusta—Westland able to submit the
needed documents making it as the only bidder to hurdle the first phase of the bidding.
The future anti—submarine
helicopters of the Philippines will be acquired through two—stage bidding because
of detailed nature of air assets.
The two—stage bidding is only applied
to big—ticket items that require scrutiny of its technical teams. First stage,
officials determine who among the potential bidders are qualified to submit the
offers.
Second stage will also determine
which of qualified suppliers has best offer for the future contract. Opening of
the financial documents, including price being offered by the suppliers were
also included in this stage.
