Looking Back- Philippine Made Missile

AFP has a missile development during Marcos era

During the Marcos administration, the Philippine Military was capable of developing locally made missile. If the details were right project was called “Bong Bong 1 and Bong Bong 2”.

Based from the result of the missile test, the optimum preheat time was 20 seconds; the detonation of the fuse was 100% performance including all the dynamic tests based on its development phase.  All the possible difficulties and problems on the previous test have been eliminated. Dynamic tests were also conducted up to 37 series on a 180mm rocket. The entire tests were carried out at Caballo except for the firing in which this was done in Fort Magsaysay.

PATO (Pressure Assisted Take off) fixed different configuration version with the rocket pins. The launchers were fixed, and this was mounted on a tube launcher in a truck including a submerged underwater firing. Among all the test it showed that rocket mounted from truck is the most appropriate for the rocket and configurations where narrowed down with fixed rocket fin.

Some reports were views as sarcastic after dictator Marcos ousted to power thru EDSA Revolution.  Most of the defense programs and reforms of the military was cancelled. During the Marcos era several test were conducted with the help of United States in the Philippines development of ballistic missiles.
