De Lima Says – “Who
paid the surveys?” Public should know, DOJ express support in a House
bill which requires the sources of financing and funding of surveys.
In an open letter released July 1
on the media, DOJ Secretary De Lima told Undersecretary Sayo of Presidential
Legislative Liaison that public deserves such information, specifically if the
survey being conducted to public involves the interest of public and its result
will be publicly disseminated.
DOJ interposes no objection on
the proposed legislation, in with the governments trust on public disclosure in
transactions involving public interest. At the same manner this should also be
implemented relative to private entities conducting transactions which involve
public interest.
By revealing the source of
financing and funding of surveys, this will inform public who is the person
behind. The funding requirement will give public fair judgment to the
legitimacy of surveys.
However, Department of Justice
said that she knows the inclusion of the section in the house bill that will
penalized national or local election surveys that will be conducted. For those
who will be violating the bill during election, they shall be prosecuted in
accordance with the Commission on Election.
