Philippine Commission on Election to Hold Pilot test for Online Voting

COMELEC (Commission on Elections) officially announced its plan to launch pilot test voting, in which this will allow Filipinos from other countries to cast their votes with the use of internet in the next 2016 presidential election.

COMELEC commissioner Tagle, they are already on the preparation stage for the conduct of pilot test in countries like in the Middle East, Hong Kong, America and Singapore.


This plan was the response on the Senates call to find for a technology that will all allow overseas voting using the available technology like internet during election.

“Those Pilot areas will be have its testing period in the 2016 Presidential Election, since those countries have the needed technology and large number of overseas Filipino, which are crucial in the testing.” Tagle said.

Study has already been done to find adequate technology with the use of internet in the casting of votes, in response the call for OAV of 2013. RA No. 10590.

Stated in Section 28 “the commission is allowed to “explore other more efficient, reliable and secure modes or systems, ensuring the secrecy and sanctity of the entire process, whether paper-based, electronic-based or Internet-based technology or such other latest technology available.”


If everything goes fine this 2016 Presidential Election, we can use Internet for voting on the preceding   elections and for registration on the next 2019 elections.
