Philippine Sokol Helicopter Crashed

Philippine Air Force Sokol helicopter crashed in the City of Marawi Mindanao, this happens Thursday according to the initial report of the military.

The Sokol Helicopter carrying 11 people as part of the air convoy of the Philippine Defense Secretary Gazmin together; Interior Secretary Roxas II and Energy Secretary Petilla, the said officials luckily was on the separate helicopter.


Captain Franco Suelto the spokesperson of Army’s 1st Infantry Division said to reporters that 2 were hurt, the gunner and a civilian on the crashed site name as Santiago Savedra.

The Sokol chopper was carrying officers of the military and other crew members, including Maj. Gen. Ricardo Visaya, and Colonel Alexander Macario. The chopper supposed to fly in Cagayan de Oro City Mindanao.

Recently one Sokol Helicopter was in Camp Aguinaldo grounded due to “weak battery”
In total there are 8 Sokol helicopter in the AFP a PZL-swidnik manufactured aircraft. The first 6 arrived last 2012 and the remaining helicopters arrived last year. Philippine government spent Php2.8 billion for the choppers.
