Philippine Soldiers to get brand new M4 rifles

Philippine soldiers finally receive their brand new assault rifles M4 that will to replace Vietnam era M16 rifles that was previously issued.

AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) will conduct ceremonial giving out of 27,300 M4 units of brand new 5.56mm M4 rifles to Philippine Army and Philippine Marine Corps. This will be marking a start of modernizing the fire power of AFP’s ground forces.


President Aquino III expected to join Defense Secretary Gazmin, Chief of Staff of AFP, and General Catapang, Jr. during the said ceremony, which will happen at AFP headquarters Camp Aguinaldo.

The firearms were part of the 50,629 M4 assault rifles acquired from American arms manufacturer, the Remington Arms Company. This was in line with AFP modernization.
The first 100 units M4 assault rifle was delivered July 5 and another 27,200 units July 31 remaining 23,329 units to be delivered in December of2014.

According to Armed Forces of the Philippines, the contract was estimated P1.9 billion sourced from AFP CUP (Capability Upgrade Program) of 2012. US based Outdoor Company won the bidding last October 2013.
