Why not use container vans instead of “trapal” into homes for disaster victims

Senator Recto believes that the abandoned container vans in the two ports of Manila can used for good purpose.

In a statement given, Senator Recto said that the government can buy or even seize abandoned containers and then give them to our local government units and other agencies which can turn them into something that will be useful.

The senator believed that container vans can be converted into mobile housing that can be used for police stations, rice storage, disaster victims home, libraries and mobile clinics.

TESDA (Technical Education and Skills Development Authority) has the equipment and manpower to modify those available 40-foot container vans.

"With its army of student welders and metal craft trainees," TESDA can transform shipping vans into useful offices or homes and even mini hotels, senator said.

"Kung wala ng lupa para pagtayuan ng istasyon ng police sa isang lugar kung saan naglipana ang riding-in-tandem gangs, van na lang na may kuryente at aircon ang pwedeng ilagay kahit sa sidewalk,"

The estimated 90,000 unclaimed and overstaying container vans were reported to be waiting in the yards to be processed.
