A total of 40 troops in Iraq killed by IS militants

The Islamic State (IS) militants disguised as Iraqi army driving a stolen Humvees killed 40 Iraqi soldiers and captured the other 68 in western Anbar province, contravention through a worsening Iraqi military offensive in the area where United States broadened its airstrike campaign.

Suicide bombings by the militants dealt a heavy blow to the government efforts to rein in militants, whose storm has apprehended much of country’s north and west and even United States and its allies began training Iraq’s Kurdish peshmerga fighters in order to bolster its ability to battle Sunni extremists.


The IS militant attacks targeted troops that were stationed at Camp Saqlawiyah near Sijir town, 70 kilometers west Baghdad. As of now, no contact on the 68 captured Iraqi soldiers who were taken by the militants to the city of Fallujah, an Islamic State stronghold.


After IS militant attacks, Iraqi military withdrew 700 troops stationed in the area.
