Vietnam accused Chinese
authorities on the issue of beating several fishermen and demanded a severe
punishment for those who are involved in the incident that could possibly increase
the tensions in the sea dispute between the two communist neighbors.
The Foreign Ministry of Vietnam’s
posted statement on its official website saying that a “Vietnamese fishing ship that was
fishing near Paracel islands then was intercepted by a Chinese
speedboats. The two Chinese speedboats vandalized the Vietnam fishing boat,
confiscated the property and beat their fishermen.” The Parcels were
occupied by China but also claimed by Vietnam.
“The government of Vietnam
demanded that the authorities of China should conduct investigation and
severely punish those who are involved then compensate the Vietnam fishermen,“
a statement quoted from Le Hai Binh the Foreign Ministry spokesman.
Vietnam has already lodged protest
in the Chinese Embassy.
Relations between the two
communist countries plunged up to the lowest point in years following the
deployment of Chinese deep—sea oil rig in the Paracels. China have sent flotilla
of ships to protect the oil rig while on the side of Vietnam dispatched coast sea
patrol boats and guard to force it away. The Vessels from both sides repeatedly
rammed each other near oil—rig.
China then removed its oil rig in
after it said that it had completed its work.
