Former Makati vice mayor confirms
that there was kickbacks received from the overpriced construction of the
Makati City Buildings.
During the Senate hearing last Tuesday,
Senator Cayetano asked Mercado if how sure he was that vice president of the
Philippines received amount from the Php 2.7 billion Makati building project.
"Yan ba ay konklusyon, spekulasyon
mo? Or you know it for a fact na kumita siya dito?" Senator Cayetano
asked.
Mercado replied, "Yan
po ang totoo."
The lady senator then asked
Mercado if VP Binay got kickbacks only from the construction of the Makati City
Hall project. "Yan ba ay one time lang sa building lang na ito o sistema na ba yan sa
Makati?"
"Yun po ang kalakaran sa Makati,"
Mercado said.
Former vice mayor had been a long
ally of the Binay’s. However, had a falling out with the Binay family after he
decided to run for mayor in 2010 against the vice president's son.
