President Aquino dismissed calls to junk the Philippine – United States pact

The Philippine President today dismissed the calls to revoke VFA (Visiting Forces Agreement) forged by country with United States following the recent murder of Filipino transgender that was allegedly committed by United States Marine.

"Why do we need to abrogate VFA? Name me any place that doesn't have crime," President Aquino told the reporters in an interview in Leyte.

What is now important is for the local authorities to gather the needed enough evidence to pin down the said perpetrator of the crime so that justice will be served.

The recent murder of the transgender Jeffrey Laude, "Jennifer," that was committed by Private First Class Joseph Scott Pemberton renewed calls by the various groups to abolish VFA – it is a pact that allows presence of the United States forces in Philippines.

President Aquino made assurance that Philippine authorities are determined to pursue justice for the victim.

"At the very least, we are making sure, based on the treaty, that Pemberton is available or the suspects are available for investigation in any and all judicial processes," Aquino said.
