The officials denied that they
were “hunting submarine”, calling a mobilization. One of biggest since Cold War, an “intelligence
operation”. The Russian’s denied that any of its submarines involved.
“There have been no irregular
situations and, even less so, accidents involving Russian naval vessels,”
said by the Russian defense ministry in statement.
But Svenska Dagbladet a Swedish daily news reported a damaged
Russian submarine was at the centre of the mystery. The said report said that the
Swedish military intelligence intercepted a radio signals between the area off coast
of the Stockholm and Russian enclave of the Kaliningrad. Home to much of Russia’s Baltic Sea naval
fleet.
“It was transmitted on a special
frequency, used by Russia in emergency situations,” the newspaper wrote, citing
Swedish military sources involved in the search. Sweden’s armed forces remained
tight-lipped, but did say its focus was on “underwater activities”. “ Swedish
Armed Forces are not in position to deny or even verify the media news or the speculations
that has recently been published about missing submarine,” Erik
Lagersten said.
