Taiwan to send a 3,000 ton Patrol Ship on the largest of the disputed Spratly islands in SCS

The Taiwan's Coast Guard Administration has not yet ruled out its posting of a 3,000—ton patrol ships Itu Aba or Taiping, the largest of the disputed Spratly islands in South China Sea, after a pier will be  completed in 2015,  this was said by the deputy chief of administration Cheng Chang—hsiung.

When the pier will be completed, it will be able to accommodate the 3,000—ton vessels on its outer side and ships up to 1,000 tons on inner side, Deputy Cheng told the lawmakers during a legislative hearing.

After a series of tests conducted to determine the pier's capability to resist large waves, administration may dispatch larger vessels including the two recently built 3,000—tons rescue and patrol ships , Cheng said.

The Taiwan administration discussed posting its naval frigates there with its navy, though no decision has been made on the said matter yet. The location was about 1,600km from southern port city of Kaohsiung Taiwan's main island.

Spratlys claimed variously countries Malaysia, Taiwan, Philippines, Vietnam, China and Brunei. Taiping is the only island to be administered by Taiwan.
