“Tear down Torre de Manila?”

“Torre de Manila, DMCI Homes’ newest one—tower condominium, was an exclusive residential community right in the heart of manila city.” This was according to the developer’s website.  As of this writing, 49—story edifice was a halfway complete. But as the building continues to rise, howls of protest from eclectic collection of groups and Photoshopped?

The Torre de Manila appears larger than the normal behind Rizal Monument. It will eventually stand a 49 stories tall. Torre de Manila permanently marks the skyline behind Rizal Monument.

DMCI In 2012 applied and secured building permit from the Manila Office of Building Official. That permit gave DMCI the go to erect building up to 7 stories high. Based on building’s plans and developer’s marketing materials print advertisements, flyers, brochures and web—pages, the Torre de Manila when completed would stand 49 stories high.

It was in January this year that Manila Zoning Board of Adjustments and Manila City Council discarded its own zoning laws and allowed DMCI to build beyond the 7 story limit of its original permit.

Readjusted permit raised protest howls from those who fear that their worst nightmare may become a reality.
