A known high ranking general from
China fired back to the United States criticism to their artificial island
project that is now on construction within contested reefs in South China Sea, the
high ranking general tells US to “back off” from its project in which the
satellite photos show an offshore airstrip.
The PLA Maj. Gen. Yuan told state—run
newspaper that the building was an infrastructure on reef and US should stay
out of it.
“US obviously very biased
considering that other countries already set up its military facilities,” the
general said.
“China is now urged to stop its
entire reclamation activities program but instead practice a diplomatic initiative
in order to restrain any trouble,” quoted by the spokesman of the US
military Colonel Pool.
But the Global Times contended
Monday that China was building on the reef “mainly to improve living
standards of China’s reef—stationed soldiers”.
“Yongshu Reef that is currently developed by
the Chinese has a potential of becoming a big island, which shows prominent
construction capabilities in the future.”
