The camp of VPBinay is not in position
to dictate what DOJ can or cannot investigate, this was said by Secretary de
Lima.
Speaking at a gathering of the public
attorneys led by Public Attorney's Office, Sec. De Lima said that the more
Binay's camp pushes DOJ and National Bureau of Investigation to halt probe, the
more doubts will be raised, and more investigation should proceed in the
future.
"The real issue is not whether or
not DOJ can investigate vice—president. The real issue is the accusations of its
systemic corruption in Makati and amassing ill—gotten wealth," she
said.
De Lima then directed NBI on to
investigate VPBinay, his alleged dummies, his family, the contractors of the Makati
City projects, and its alleged cohorts in scheme of plundering city's coffers. Accusations
made public by Binay's former ally, the ex—Makati Vice—Mayor Mercado, and several
individuals.
The Binay's camp hit DOJ for
ordering the said probe, accusing Sec. De Lima engaging in "political
circus," threatening her of disbarment.
