In the City of Dava Philippines, DOST
(Department of Science and Technology) set to boost weather forecasting
capabilities by acquiring the latest equipment.
Secretary Montejo said that DOST
is now set to buy the mobile version of “storm chaser” equipment which will
be commissioned on the typhoon—prone areas.
Sec. Montejo arrived for the
Minda-DOST Cluster Science and Technology Fair at SMX Convention Center in Lanang
Premiere.
“The mobile radars or what we call
storm chasers that we will have will then be deployed near the typhoon—hit
areas in our country” he said.
These storm chasers are meant to
provide an additional monitoring and accurate information about the typhoon
while communicating the acquired data to the ground.
The secretary also said that the
mobile radar could provide a back—up monitoring in case the facilities such as the
Doppler radars are damaged during the typhoon.
In addition to that the DOST is
also eyeing for the supercomputers which will run PAGASA’s weather forecasting
models.
