Ph- military deployed 5 battalions to Basilan vs the Abu Sayyaf

The Ph—military deployed five battalions from its military units as part of the all-out law government enforcement operations against Abu Sayyaf in the Basilan.

The AFP Chief General Catapang told the reporters that a total of five battalions with specialized units were now deployed to battle against the rebel group.


Gregorio Catapang on the other hand refuses to give information on the number of military troops that were sent. For the record a single battalion consists of 300—500 military soldiers.

Lately, six military soldiers were killed in ambush by Abu Sayyaf in the Sumisip town. The said soldiers were securing government development project.

General Catapang visited Basilan and met regional military commanders and some local officials in the government.

The mayors in Basilan asking for intensified counter—terrorism drive in order to neutralize bandits. Catapang said that they launched all—out law military enforcement operations with police. The said operation is now intensified because AS (Abu Sayyaf) have standing warrant arrest and we are now pursuing them.


Philippine military is also doing its operations in the area of Sulu after Abu Sayyaf freed two German captives last October.
