VP Binay has this habit of
overstaying in position. Based from records, the Binay family from father,
mother to son have been overstaying as Makati mayors; and VP Binay himself overstaying
as the national president of BSP (Boy Scouts of the Philippines).
VP Binay the longest—serving
president of the BSP, first elected in 1994. The previous presidents of BSP’s served
only two to three year terms. But for Binay that has been clinging as BSP
presidency for 20 years in a row.
The former Makati vice mayor known
as the principal whistle—blower against the Binay controversy was a senior BSP VP
for only 3 years, from 2004 — 2007. It is easy to see why VP Binay does not
want to give up BSP presidency, since it has a total membership of 2 million, and
many of whom are no longer boys but already adult voters. Imagine the said advantage
of having an organization with potential 2 million votes.
The Scout Oath and the Scout law,
Does VP Binay fit into these? Judging by the recent news and released surveys,
he already fails on the first qualification “trustworthiness”.
Shouldn’t we change BSP national
president someone more trustworthy and lives by Scout rules?
