The recent opposition moves to
impeach the Philippine President still hanging in air, with House of
Representatives adjourning the session without dismissing three complaints
against him.
House has failed to vote on justice
committee recommendation that will throw the complaints filed by the Aquino
critics endorsed by the militant party-list representatives from the “Makabayan”
bloc.

Same group tried to remove President
Arroyo through legal means by filing annual impeachment cases towards her. As usual
Arroyo’s allies consistently threw the filed complaints.
September 2, justice committee,
chaired by the Iloilo Representative Tupas Jr. belongs to Liberal Party, voted
overwhelmingly to dismiss three complaints against the President Aquino.
President was insulated from new
cases, but still theoretically vulnerable to impeachment move because House has
not finally killed three complaints.
If all Aquino’s critics and his political
enemies gather votes one—third of 290 members of House, they could send complaints
directly to Senate for the trial, as what happened to former chief justice Corona.
“No chance that President could be
impeached,” Neptali Gonzales II the Majority Leader said when he was asked
if there’s a chance that vote could mustered during month—long Congress Christmas
recess.
