South Korea to Give Excess LCU-70 to Philippines

Philippine defense authority Secretary Gazmin confirmed that PH once again will receive these equipment s' in support to its modernization upgrades.

Even though the exact information has not been released on media, some speculations came out that the vessel has a landing pad for helicopter that can hold up to 200 troops.


Our insider source told us on a phone call and confirmed that it is not an LST. But indeed an LCU-70 from  South Korea, and that if the PH deal with South Korea runs smoothly these vessels will be delivered directly to Philippines end of this year.

Vessels are designed by Tacoma Company of United States and made in Korea, and transferring it to the Philippines will need the go signal of the United States. Based from data LCU-70 has 415 tons ship displacement at a dimension of 41.1m by 8.8m by 1.8m that needs 14 crews that has a maximum speed up to 13 knots.


LCU-70 vessel weapons include 20mm guns Oerlikon mounted on old Philippine navy ships, 20mm Vulcan turrets and mobile patrol boats. Overall vessels will be delivered if the deal between PH and South Korea runs smoothly. As to its number of LCU-70 no official statement has been released on the public.
