Philippine defense authority Secretary
Gazmin confirmed that PH once again will receive these equipment s' in support to its
modernization upgrades.
Even though the exact information
has not been released on media, some speculations came out that the vessel has
a landing pad for helicopter that can hold up to 200 troops.
Our insider source told us on a
phone call and confirmed that it is not an LST. But indeed an LCU-70
from South Korea, and that if the PH
deal with South Korea runs smoothly these vessels will be delivered directly to
Philippines end of this year.
Vessels are designed by Tacoma
Company of United States and made in Korea, and transferring it to the Philippines
will need the go signal of the United States. Based from data LCU-70 has 415
tons ship displacement at a dimension of 41.1m by 8.8m by 1.8m that needs 14
crews that has a maximum speed up to 13 knots.
LCU-70 vessel weapons include
20mm guns Oerlikon mounted on old Philippine navy ships, 20mm Vulcan turrets
and mobile patrol boats. Overall vessels will be delivered if the deal between
PH and South Korea runs smoothly. As to its number of LCU-70 no official
statement has been released on the public.
