Philippine National Telecommunication
Commission received nearly 1,000 scam complaints related to text from the month
of January – June 2014, higher compared to the previous year with a total of
1,179 text scam cases.
According to OCI Atty. Nolasco
Jr., your phone numbers can be acquired in many means. If you look at a hole
some text scammers might get your mobile numbers from surveys and other feedbacks
from the restaurants that you recently visit. Some people buy these gathered
contact information and will be used for scamming.
Advanced scammers use SMS
broadcast techniques for them to send its scam text messages, some scammers may
text and send message to your relatives telling that the recipient was in
accident and need emergency cash for the hospital bills.
The most common text scam are the
“promo scams” telling the recipient that they have won something, a legal
officer is being included in which later on you will be then ask to send load
and even money in payment to the “tax”.
