6.1 Magnitude Strong Quake hits China

A strong earthquake measured 6.1 in magnitude hit southwest portion of China in Yunnan Province, the quake struck seven miles (11 kilometers) west northwest town of Wenping at a deep of 10 kilometers.

United States Geological Survey warned “overall” population in Yunnan Province that they are highly vulnerable to land shaking.


In a local news agency reported that their firefighters were rushing at the epicenter, the Yunnan province in China lies where the Indian and Eurasian plates meet and this is prone to earthquakes.

In the year 1974 6.8 magnitude was recorded hat killed more than 1,500 people in the area. And in September of 2012 80 people died with earthquake struck mountainous area of Guizhou and Yunnan.


Last May of 2008, earthquake measured 8.0 magnitude rocked Sichuan, killing almost ten thousand people and the flattening for the province. China authorities warned the public for earthquake aftershocks.
