China and Bolivia engaged in the signing
of a contract to purchase six Harbin H425 choppers. The Foreign Minister of Bolivian
Romero and the Planning Minister Caro recently signed the accord with the China’s
diplomatic representative Shen Zhiliang during the ceremony held in La Paz.
The new H425 helicopters will be
commissioned to Group General Air Cavalry Division at St. James, based in city
of Cochabamba.
The Bolivia Government invested USD104
million in the purchase of a rotary wing aircraft from China’s National Aero—Technology
Import & Export Corporation (CATIC), including lot of spare parts,
accessories, simulator and pilot training and technicians.
The commanding General of the Bolivian
Army said that the provision of the rotary wing aircrafts marks an era of the institutional
modernization that began brewing in 2006 and will be consolidated for 2025.It
was reported that a total of 17 pilots and 24 technicians were trained in
China, Brazil, Ecuador and Venezuela.
The H425 helicopters delivered
from China will serve for personnel and supplies, reconnaissance, medical
evacuation and search and rescue (SAR) operations of Bolivian government. HS425
helicopters provide support to fight smuggling and drug trafficking, as
determined by the General Command of the Bolivian Army.
