AFP (Armed Forces of the
Philippines) strongly rejected demand given by NAP (New People's Army) for a
ceasefire in barter for the freedom of two Army soldiers recently captured by rebel
group.
"I-release niyo sila. Ngayon na!,"
chief Lt. Col. Ramon Zagala of public
affairs said.
The NPA (New People’s Army) expressed
its willingness to release two soldiers but they demanded for the suspension of
the military and police operations from midnight of September 10 up to the midnight
of September 20 covering Balingasag, Gingoog City, Claveria and Misamis
Oriental, as well as municipalities of Cabanglasan, Malitbog, Malaybalay City
of Bukidnon, San Fernando and Impasug-ong.
According to Zagala, “rebels
should release our soldiers without condition.”
"Hindi kami nakikipag-negotiate sa
mga terorista”. We demand now that they release our soldiers
unconditionally. But we are taking necessary steps to rescue them," he
said.
Zagala believes that the ceasefire
that the NPA wants is not an act of goodwill, but a way for them the rebels to get
the military off in the area.
Two soldiers, who have belong to the
8th Infantry Battalion were abducted by NPA August 22 while they were doing
community service in Barangay Bontungon in the town of Impasug-ong.
