The Philippine FA-50 is a brand
new light combat aircraft manufactured by the Korean Aerospace Industries (KAI).
A light combat version of T—50 Golden Eagle supersonic advanced jet trainer and
light attack aircraft.
The Development of FA—50 combat
aircraft began 1997 of October. A total of six prototypes were built during its
development phase which was concluded January of 2006.
The FA—50 were then awarded a military
type certificate by Korean MAAC (Military Aircraft Airworthiness Committee). It
first fighter—class military aircraft to receive a MAAC certification.
The indigenously developed version of FA—50 light attack aircraft expected to replace ROKAF's ageing fighter fleet of F—5E/F and the A—37 aircraft. The FA—50 will strengthen defense capability of ROKAF.
FA—50 is based on T—50 supersonic advanced trainer platform, offered as affordable and efficient supersonic advanced light attack platform.
The aircraft is intended to meet light fighter requirements of the air forces around the world. The advanced radar provides FA—50 with high detection capability which is similar to KF—16 fighter.
FA—50 measures 13.14m length, 9.45m width and 4.82m height. Empty weight of the aircraft is 6.47t. The FA—50 aircraft can take—off a maximum gross weight of 12.3t.
