Ephraim Ben Matityau the Israeli
Ambassador met the Philippine President as he pitched its efforts to strengthen
ties between two countries (Philippines and Israel).
Both Matityau and Aquino exchanged
views on the strengthening of the Israeli—Philippine relations, particularly in
areas of high—tech innovation, emergency preparedness, research and
development, and agro—technology.
New Israeli representative pushed
the implementation of joint committee for the science and technology as per proposed
earlier by the Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario.
“With this kind of initiative, we
can reach a new chapter in our developing relations. Israel’s position as a
HiTech Nation and the Philippines aspirations are a perfect match – from new
challenges of the CyberTech to BioTech, NanoTech or AgriTech – the future is
full of opportunities,” he said.
Matityau highlighted the strong
relationship between Philippines and Israel that spanned in years.
He also noted the 1,300 Jewish
people that were saved by Philippine government under President Manuel Quezon
during the Holocaust.
