Boxing champion Pacquiao is not
qualified to run for Vice President in the next 2016 Presidential Election, this
was said by an election lawyer.
Vice President Binay visited
Sarangani, legislative district of Manny Pacquiao that triggered speculations
that Representative Pacquiao may be Binay’s running mate.
“For sure Binay knows that to be qualified to run for the position of
president and vice president, the candidate must at least be 40 years of age
on the day of the election as provided
under Section 2, Article VII of the 1987 Constitution,” election lawyer
Romulo Macalintal.
He noted that Pacquiao was born December
17, 1978 which means he will only be 37 years old by the 2016 presidential elections
are held.
“He is, however, qualified to run
for Senator where the age qualification is at least 35 years of age on the day
of the election as provided under Section 3, Article VI of the Constitution,”
Macalintal explained.
