Philippine Air Force chose the 12
KAI TA—50 aircraft in order for the agency to fulfill its requirement for light
attack and the lead-in fighter trainer plane. Department of National Defense announced
selection of the said type August of 2012. The funding for the 12 aircraft was
approved by the Congress September 2012, media reported that FA—50, not TA—50
as previously reported, was selected for the 12—aircraft acquisition.
October of 2013, President Aquino
said that DND close to finalizing the deal of the FA-50, and 19 of October
2013, Philippine President and President Park Geun-hye of the South Korea
signed the memorandum of understanding with provisions for the said jet acquisitions.

2014 President Aquino approved
the said payment scheme for the purchase of 12 fighter trainers with the amount
of Php18.9 billion or USD415.7 million budgeted. March of 2014, Philippines' DND
signed contract for the 12 FA—50 light attack aircraft worth Php18.9 billion or
USD421.12 million.
The first two FA-50s planned to
be delivered 18 months after the signing of contract.
Contract signed on March 28, 2014. The first two of the FA-50 will be delivered after 18 months of the contract. The next two will be after 12 months of the first delivery. The remaining eight will be delivered in staggered basis after two months until 2017.
