South Korean Military Helicopter Kamov 32 crashes

The South Korean Kamov 32 military chopper crashed in a rice fields near the Incheon injuring two pilots.

The said helicopter was developed for ferrying and has anti—submarine warfare capabilities. The design work began in the 1969 the first prototype version of the chopper flew in the year 1973. It was intended to replace the decade—old Kamov Ka—25 similar in appearance to its predecessor due to the requirements of fitting in the same hangar space.

Like other Kamov helicopters of the military it has a coaxial rotor removing need for a tail rotor.

Ka—32 features high power to weight ratio and ease of handling and owing to its coaxial rotor design. The rotors' diameters are not restricted by presence of tail rotor and its associated to a tail boom; this facilitates maneuvering near obstacles and helps assure exceptional accuracy when hovering in heavy smoke and dust conditions.
