As the Philippines military
launched its air strikes and the ground troops also attacked the camp of the Philippine
based extremist named as “Abu Sayyaf group” (ASG) in the Patikul,
Sulu.
Colonel Arrojado the commander of
JTGS (Joint Task Group Sulu) of Armed Forces of Philippines based in Western
Mindanao Command said that the ASG bandits, headed by Hatib Sawadjaan, immediately
retreated deep into jungles of the Mt. Sinumaan in order to escape the
offensive operations of the Philippine military.
In the ground operation of the
troops it includes the troops from the 35th Battalion with the K-9
teams. The said fighting between military and militants as government military forces
launched offensive against Abu Sayyaf group following the recent release of two
German hostages namely Viktor Okonek together with his wife Dielen weeks ago.
As 35th IB reconnaissance
platoon by Lt. Chester Catapang tracked about 5-10 ASG members in Bungkaong, Arrojado
immediately directed Philippine Air Force MG520 attack helicopters to provide immediate
air support to the said pursuing troops.
The attack helicopters then fired
rounds of rockets towards the encampment.
According to the official, if
they can confirm the presence militants and got the all the details needed, the
air strike was then launched with the attack helicopters MG520 dropping HEO
(high explosive ordinance munitions to the bandits.
Arrojado also said that the
bandits appeared to be preparing for a huge feast to celebrate the recent
success operations involving German hostages who were released after a ransom
was allegedly paid to them.
