Makati mayor urged to follow suspension order

MalacaƱang appealed to City Mayor of Makati Erwin Binay Jr. to just follow the suspension order that was issued by Office of Ombudsman in connection with overpriced Makati parking building in order to avoid any disruption of city services in Makati.

Four days and still counting Binay Jr. holed up inside in his office after ombudsman ordered a six-month suspension for him as city mayor. An estimate of 2,500 supporters surrounded Makati city hall, affecting the city’s delivery of services.

Manuel Roxas II of Interior and Local Government Secretary said that the “drama” staged by Binay camp is not helping the city any good results.

“In Makati, (issuance of) business permits and occupancy permits and real estate tax filing – all these are being delayed. How many thousands of people can’t transact their business because of this drama?” Roxas asked.

The report revealed that “Binay’s suspension stems from the administrative charges he is facing for grave misconduct, serious dishonesty and conduct prejudicial to the best interest of government service because the Makati City Hall parking building was awarded to MANA Architecture & Interior Design Co. without public bidding and periodic payments were released to MANA without its corresponding deliverables under the contract.”
