Philippine National Police authorities recalled the ammunition of grenade M203 launchers after reports gone viral that some of its ammunition was defective during the Mamasapano clash which have killed forty-four Special Action Forces (SAF) soldiers.
The ammunition was part of the Philippine Military upgrades 2015 by the administration. PNP Director General Leonardo Espina, said that the recalled ammunitions will be decommissioned and no longer be used in military operations.
“All will be recalled for decommissioning. We believe that these are not working because these are already very old,” Said Espina Monday.
The recall of the ammunition was released after the Mamasapano encounter that killed 44 commandos as reports surfaced that some M203 launcher ammunitions failed during the clash.
An investigation was conducted by Directorate for Logistics to the ammunitions that were issued to the field units most particularly to SAF and other public safety battalions. In addition they will also conduct test on the recalled ammunition of M203 grenades.
“We are looking into this claim and in fact doing something about it. We are verifying all of these through our investigation,” Espina added.
For the same reason PNP officer previously floated theory that the M203 ammunition did not explode because of its safety measure, the distance of the target.
