The Military Amphibious Assault was one of the combat highlights in the recent bilateral exercises between Philippine and U.S. in Zambales as part of Philippine military upgrades 2015. The exercise was done 250 kilometers away from disputed Scarborough Shoal.
The Philippine Naval base that spreads length of two kilometers in the northern beach of Luzon was the perfect place to conduct landing exercise of the amphibious military vehicles. This was according to United States Director Christopher Mahoney,
He said that "The complexity of this exercise is born out of the beauty of this training range. It’s practical to use this training range in order to get all our objectives"
For this year’s Philippine military upgrades 2015 exercise with US, its main focus is for territorial defense in which the joint Philippine and United States task force aim to take back seized islands by the enemies. But the said training exercise does not aim just to escalate the disputed maritime territories by China.
The exercise is just testing our capabilities both United States and Philippine forces and there was no intention to do it on the areas in which there were arguments between the two countries.
Overall there were 350 Filipino soldiers and 400 soldiers from US who participated in “Boat Raid” training. Though Philippine Military is lacking in modern equipment, the general believes that training with US Armed Forces will help at least strengthen the capability of Philippine Armed Forces.
As part of Philippine military upgrades 2015, Philippine Navy is set to acquire two brand new SSV Strategic Sea lift Vessels and eight AAV Amphibious Assault Vehicles making the amphibious assault exercise perfect training for future operators of the incoming military assets.
