Philippine armed forces is set to
obtain additional defense equipment, this includes navy ships from United States
in order to counter territorial threats and internal terrorism.
General Bautista the AFP Chief of
Staff noted the “Threat and governments action to defend its territory” in which
the need of countries defense capabilities should be upgraded.
“Philippine defense would need at
least 6 frigates in order to secure West Philippine Sea” Bautista said.
Currently we are already bidding two frigates, and those will be arriving in a
couple of years from now. This will be a part of his legacy when the general
retires this July.
At present, Philippine defense
has a total of 2 warships. Namely Gregorio del Pilar and BRP Ramon Alcaraz,
both were stationed in Palawan and currently helping relief operations on Super
Typhoon Yolanda Victims.
United States Secretary John Kery
pledges a military assistance worth USD40 million in order to boost our
maritime defense. United States has been
the Philippines long time ally.
Expectedly in the next 3 years,
the Armed Forces of the Philippines will add 20,000 military troops. Around
Php7 billion to Php10billion will be needed to boost our military personnel.
