China’s Mi—17 PLAAF helicopter emergency landing in a Stadium due to engine failure

Chinas Mi—17 chopper of Chengdu Military Region was on a regular routine training mission when suddenly both engines of the helicopter stopped working and the aircraft lost all its power.

The 53—year—old helicopter pilot captain Yonglong was the pilot on the aircraft carefully guided the chopper over the densely populated and landed the Mi—17 in the Chengdu stadium.


In the present—day PLAAF descended from Aviation Laotienne, established by French and later became Royal Lao Air Force. A Pathet Lao guerrilla forces began operating few aircraft from the year 1960’s, as did another rebel group led by Kong Le. Kong Le forces were later re—incorporated into a Royal Lao Air Force. And when the communist take—over in 1975, this resulted the adoption of the present name.

The Military co—operation agreement with the Russians in 1997 resulted in the 12 Mil Mi-17 helicopters that entered service in mid—1999 follow on from previous deliveries of the Mi—8s.
