A Chinese run publication called Philippines
“quasi-rogue”
and demanded public apology from President Aquino III for what it called “serial
attacks on the Chinese citizens.”
“Poor social governance with an
anti—China sentiment, and a Western—style democratic system where nationalism
can stimulate wantonly make Philippines quasi—rogue state,” quoted from
the Global Times editorial published September 16.
“We demand Philippine President
Benigno Aquino to make public apology for its serial attacks on Chinese
citizens which severely reprimand criminals, which may add to our confidence in
Philippine government ensuring safety of Chinese citizens,” it said.
Global Times owned by People’s
Daily and the official newspaper of China.
The editorial cited incident
where Chinese citizen injured after being shot in the provice of Bulacan and
the kidnapping of the two Chinese nationals on Sept. 8 and 11.
“Although Philippines is now suffering from deteriorating
security situation, the spate of incidents targeting Chinese over the week
inevitably prompts public to connect them to the escalation tension between both
countries,” it said.
