White House officially declared United
States is now at war with IS (Islamic State radicals), seeking to polish out
another semantic flutter over Syrian policy.
In a string of television
interviews John Kerry the Secretary of
State appeared to be hesitant to term expansion of United States operations
against the IS in Iraq and Syria as ”war.”
But pushed to clear up misgivings
about how President Obama sees the disagreement, White House and Pentagon left
little doubt.
”The United States is at war with
ISIL in the same way that we are at war with Al-Qaeda and its Al-Qaeda
affiliates all around the globe,” White House spokesman Josh Earnest
said.
Pentagon spokesman John Kirby
said that US was not combating the last Iraq war and used comparable language
to Earnest.
”But make no mistake, we know we
are at war with ISIL in the same way we’re at war and continue to be at war
with Al-Qaida and its affiliates,” he said.
President Obama scheduled to be
in Tampa to receive briefing from top commanders at United States Central
Command that oversees American forces in Middle East.
