In Action — Phalanx CIWS Naval Gatling Gun

The CIWS (Phalanx Close—In Weapons System) was designed to be the last line of defense for anti—ship missiles. It consists of radar—guided 20 mm Gatling gun that is mounted on a swivel type base that can fire up to 4,500 rounds/minute or 75 rounds/second.

The effective firing range of the CIWS Gatling Guns is 3.6 km or 2.2 mi. The CIWS can be used to defend against fast—attack boats and surface threats.
