The alliance of NATO drawn up strategy
to defend Turkey if it will be attacked along its border with Syria, this was
said by a Turkish official.
The Defense Minister Ismet
Yilmaz, whose is is country’s NATO member, said that the alliance did that at
his government's request as the Islamic State militants, captured a large swath
of the Iraq and Syria, and trying to take Syrian town of Kobani near Turkish
border.
"If there is an attack, NATO's
joint defense mechanisms will be activated," Yilmaz told the reporters.
"From the moment the incidents relating to Syria first started, we asked
NATO to prepare for possibilities to make plans. NATO prepared a plan taking
various alternatives into account."
"if there will be an attack on
Turkey, NATO will immediately bring about provisions of Article 5 of Washington
Convention." The Article 5 states an attack against one NATO
member shall be considered attack against all members.
Jens Stoltenberg the NATO's new secretary
general appeared to confirm what Turkey was saying during its news conference
in Poland.
