United States Navy Showing Promise of Its Rail Gun

The United States Navy developers are now moving into the second phase of its testing for the electromagnetic rail gun that the United States Navy leaders hope to mount to the surface ships in future, this was said by the service officials at the Annual Symposium of the Navy Surface Warfare Association.

The United States rail gun is a high energy, multi- mission, long-range weapon that is able to fire at high-velocity projectiles three times far as the most existing guns of the Navy. “We’ve gone through prototype phase 1 and had two industry gun systems. We’re now on phase two which will give us multiple rounds per minute,” said by the Rear Admiral chief of Naval research. Klunder expressed its enthusiasm that the said rail gun successfully went 8 — 8 in recent test firing at the White Sands Missile Range.

It went exactly where we told it to go with good telemetry,” the admiral explained.

The US rail gun can hit at ranges up to 100 miles or even more, it uses electricity that is stored on the ship to generate high—speed electromagnetic pulse that is sufficient to propel kinetic energy warhead. The result is an inexpensive yet high-impact and a long-range offensive weapon.
