In City of Zambonga, the
Philippine government troops cornered an estimate of 300 Abu Sayyaf (AS) gunmen
following the recent clashes that killed five soldiers dead in Talipao, Sulu.
Captain Rowena Muyuela, the spokesperson
of Westmincom (Western Mindanao Command) said that intelligence reports
revealed that many Abu Sayyaf were also killed and wounded during the recent encounter
with the Philippine armed forces.
The troops from Army’s 1st Scout
Ranger Company headed by Lieutenant Asistores reported to have killed around 30
bandits. Five soldiers were also killed during the firefight.
Muyuela also added that the
troops expected to mete out damage to Abu Sayyaf in its pursuit operations.
“This is now a good opportunity for
us, because our soldiers cornered the AS bandits. We also believe that because this
will have a good accomplishment in our law enforcement operation,” Captain
Muyuela said.
Attack helicopters were used by
the government forces on the reported Abu Sayyaf positions.
